Quake Experience is an interactive educational museum that takes the visitor back to the year 1755 to relive the Great Lisbon Earthquake.

The experience is made up of multiple rooms that take the visitor through the story. From the introduction in a science professor’s workspace, to a training centre, through a time machine back to the streets of Lisbon in the year 1755. Then onwards into a hall where the rebuilding of Lisbon is planned and executed, and finally to a 360° end show, where the experience is summed up for the visitor.
Professor Luis' Laboratory

The professor's workspace is brought to life through several AV content points: A bookcase, table with spread out documents, painting, chalk board, voice recorder box and computer screen all come to life at various moments as the Professor's voice message introduces the visitor to the journey they are about to take.

Centre for Earthquake Preparedness

The earthquake training centre educates the visitor on the science and social impact of earthquakes and serves as a space to teach the viewer how to be prepared in the event of an earthquake.
Time Machine

Once the visitor is sufficiently prepared to survive an earthquake, they are sent back in time through the help of a time machine.
Streets of Lisbon 1755

At the end of the journey, the visitor arrives in the streets of Lisbon, on the morning of the  5th of November 1755, All Saint's Day. The visitor is immersed in the world of the typical Lisbon city dweller, enjoying the sights and sounds of the period and engaging with the environment through various AV points that further the storytelling.
Mass Panic

The Church bells ring in the start of morning mass, and the visitors are ushered into church, where they witness the historical liturgy of mass, interrupted by the earthquake. They experience the panic that ensues.
The Aftermath

Escaping the horrors of the simulated earthquake, the visitors find themselves in the aftermath of broken down homes and fountains, in the heat of the fire that has broken out in the city. Various AV points allow the visitor to learn more about the death toll, reach of the quake, and impact on the survivors. And after escaping the earthquake and the fires, the visitors witness the tsunami that follows.
The Rebuilding

A staircase leads the visitor onto a last view of the burning city, before reaching the Sala dos Cantos, where the rebuilding and replanning of the new Lisbon is brought to life, again through a variety of AV points and props. The visitor hears first hand accounts from survivors and learns about the state of the art new city plans and rebuilding of Lisbon.
End Show

The experience ties together in the end show, which involves a 360° immersive projection show with a recounting of the journey, a view of the great Praça do Comércio, and some hidden easter eggs and surprises for the keen observer.
